The construction of scenic areas brings visitors more fruitful and impressive experiences. A total of over 200 million yuan was spent on the reconstruction of the Dragon Head, Chenghai Tower, Ninghia City, Longwu Camp, Jingbian Tower, Linlv Tower, Muying Tower, the Lotus Park, Qixian Temple at Jiaoshan Hill, the great wood structure of Zhendong Tower, over 3000 meters of the Great Wall, the expansion of the First Pass Under Heaven Square, the environment upgrading along the Great Wall and the coast, and 2 million square meters of green land.

The improvement of tourist social service system makes Shanhaiguan visits easy and comfortable. Well organized and put in service are professional tour guides and social tour guide service center, tourist service centers and medical aid services set up in the scenic areas up to the standards of grade AAAA, over 20 selected restaurants, hotels, and shops that are satisfactory in service and good in quality, and tourist buses No. 23, 24, 26 and 27.

The tourist management and market control keeps Shanhaiguan visits in order and safeguards the interest of visitors. Various regulations and policies on tourism are promulgated. Scenic areas, hotel, shops, tour agencies, tour taxi and tour guides receive relevant training and regulation. The Tourist Inspection Team and Tourist Safety Control Office are set up to wipe off unlicensed taxi and tour guides, as well as price cheating, fake goods selling, private commissions, forced selling and running after tourists to sell.

Tourist festival and activities makes Shanhaiguang visits more colorful. Since 1990s, the Jiaoshan Hill Mounting Festival, Longevity Hill Golden Autumn Festival, Spring Sightseeing Festival and Lady Mengjiang Temple Fair have been held annually. “China Shanhaiguan Great Wall Festival” were held 4 times. The Dragon Head Sea Fair and the Great Wall Concert were also held.

The fruitful work of all aspects brings Shanhaiguan various rewards. Shanhaiguan was entitled in 1985 the first of “National Top 10 Landscapes”. Shanhaiguan Great Wall was listed by UNESCO in “World Natural and Cultural Heritage” in 1987. Shanhaiguan---the Dragon Head was entitled “China Top 40 Tourist Resorts” in 1991, one of the national tours for “1992 China Friendship Sightseeing Year” in 1992, one of the important extended areas for “1993 China Landscape Tours” in 1993, one of key tours for national historical and cultural relics tours in 1994, one of the national tours for “China Local Customs and Culture Tours---the Great Wall” in 1995, one of the first “China Excellent Tourist Cities” in 1999, “National Forest Park” with the Longevity Hill, Jiaoshan Hill and Yansai Lake, “National Well-managed Tourist Area Demonstration” by the National Tourism Administration in 2000, one of the first “National Grade AAAA Tourist Areas” by the National Tourism Administration in 2000, and “China Historic and Cultural City” in 2001. Tourism has become a major industry for economic and social development in Shanhaiguan.
